   Sculptor, woodcut printmaker, engraver, typeface designer, and printer. Major British artist of the first half of the 20th century. Trained at the Chich-ester Technical and Art School and studied under W. Caroe in London at the Central School of Art and Design. Produced a huge output of prints, including book illustrations and bookplates. Also known as an influential typeface designer. His unique art combines religion and sensuosity/eroti-cism.
